2001-04-06: Returning to Bonn
On 6 April 2001, I had one last English Breakfast before we headed to Plymouth City Airport. Fitting two people and my luggage into Pauline’s new car was not easy, but we managed.
When I checked in my luggage at the airport, I was told that my flight to London Gattwick might have to be cancelled due to the dense fog. After an hour’s wait, speculation turned into certainty. British Airways quickly arranged ground transport, turning an eighty minute flight into a five hour coach trip. Of course, this meant I was going to miss my connecting flight to Frankfurt.
The coach trip was rather uneventful, although we passed Stonhenge. Judging from the number of people around—basically none—it had probably been closed due to the foot and mouth epidemic.
I finally boarded a plane to Frankfurt at about the time I had originally planned to arrive in Bonn. In Frankfurt, I managed to miss a train to Bonn by no more than a minute, delaying my arrival back home to 1:30am.
Now that I am back, I have to finish a major project during the next few weeks, but I expect to hit the road again soon. I plan to visit a friend in Leipzig at the end of May and in early June, I will fly to Northern Ireland to visit another friend in Coleraine. I don’t think Andrea will let me go without her digital camera, so you can expect more pictures then.
